It all started when Alexa Borden and I said we wanted to use our music for good in the world. Lex turned out to be quite the Philly Groover on the cajon. Her pal Connor joined us on mandolin and accordion. Next came our old pal Victor with his hooky bass riffs. And of course, there was always Frankie, on sax, bvox, and overall good vibe. I had written 12 songs for this project. I called it "Refugee Soul."

We came together and rehearsed to raise money for DIRECT RELIEF to help people hit by fires here in California. Martyn Evans booked us at Viva Cantina, in Burbank, by the equestrian district. A Saturday afternoon, September 22, and we debuted our very first set! Matt Forger, engineer (Michael Jackson) did our sound and live recorded the gig which was full to capacity. We raised beyond our $1500, and resolved that this was too good a thing for a one-off show.
